Moodle Educators Certification 25 hrs

MEC is the Moodle Educator Certification and it is based on the European Framework for Digital Competences for Educators (DigCompEdu). DigCompEdu articulates 22 competences in six areas, as shown below and MEC has one course for each area: Professional Engagement, Digital Resources, Teaching and Learning, Assessment, Empowering Learners, Facilitating Learners’ Digital Competence.

When an MEC course is successfully completed, candidates receive a badge, and when all badges are acquired, candidates receive the Moodle Educator Certificate. MEC gives candidates the opportunity for professional development, examining Moodle potentials in cases of blended, mobile and online education. MEC is based on case studies and the use of Moodle to support school students, adults in higher education and workplace training.

MEC courses are asynchronous, online, facilitated and are offered by specialised Moodle Partners and occasionally by Moodle. MEC courses may be completed in any order, depending on the provider. The price to candidates is defined by the Moodle Partner offering it, and there is a 200 Euro fee for the certificate, generated by Moodle.

    Frequently Asked
    Questions

Here are some FAQs that clients asked about Moodle Educators Certification

What is the cost of the MEC?

MEC facilitation (six courses) cost will depend on the Moodle Partner offering it. On top of this there is a 200 Euro fixed fee for the Certificate generated by Moodle HQ. This fee may be paid directly to Moodle HQ or to the Partner.

What happens if a candidate fails an MEC course?

If they fail one or more MEC courses they may still continue with the other courses, but will not be eligible for the Moodle Educator Certificate. If they want to receive the Certificate, they will need to pay again for and retake the particular course(s). They will need to complete this process within two years of starting the MEC.

What happens if a candidate does not reach B2 level in a writing assignment?

If a candidate does not reach the B2 level in a writing assignment, they may update their submission twice, following the feedback from their facilitator. If they do not reach B2 level after this, they fail in that particular course, and consequently they will not be eligible for the Moodle Educator Certificate. However, they may still continue completing the other MEC courses.

What happens if a candidate does not reach 80% in all the quizzes?

If candidates do not reach the 80% in all the quizzes that assess capabilities, they will not be awarded the course badge and consequently, they will not be eligible for the Moodle Educator Certificate, even if they reach B2 (Expert) level in both writing assignments. They may take these quizzes as many times as required.

    How are MEC assignments assessed?

MEC writing assignments are assessed with a rubric, based on the DigCompEdu rubric and linked to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR): A1 (Newcomer), A2 (Explorer), B1 (User), B2 (Expert), C1 (Leader), C2(Pioneer).

What do they say about MEC?

In professional engagement, I learned that building relationships and increasing transparency inside a company requires effective communication. With the use of the communication features of moodle, we can use it in our organization. With this course, I was able to finish the assessments and tasks.

Online courses like this allow me to work at my own pace because they give them complete control over their learning. In general, as I took the course, it absorbed more information and worked faster than it would otherwise. The course moves more quickly through areas they feel comfortable with but slower through those they need more time.

I am an experienced Moodler, taking this course makes me realized that there’s a lot more I need to learn. This course helps and guides me as an educator and as a Moodle Partner to reflect on how we can improve and provide excellent advice to our clients. In our day to day job, especially in this time of the pandemic, we are so busy, that we don’t have much time to reflect on the advices we gave our clients, it is really timely that I take this course.

MEC Digital Resources course helped me select appropriate resources for my learners’ needs. Also, be aware of licensing conditions when using or adapting materials sourced online. I also learned open-source programs to develop new content that can be uploaded on my moodle site.

I learned about diversification, personalization and differentiation in designing a course. Engaging learners on the use on Moodle is really a big help for me and for my students. Thanks to the available resources and to this application NVDA. This app will help inclusive learners feel that they also belong to a regular class and that they can also perform well in their class. Thank you
